1 year on YouTube

I uploaded my first video to youtube on the 19th September 2010 and I can’t believe how quick that year has gone.

At the time, I wasn’t playing Battlefield and it was a World of Warcraft video testing out the software that I was using to create different camera angles etc and I remember at the time thinking how brilliant it was. I must admit I do have some nice ‘shots’ in there but in the main and a year on, yeah I know it’s crap haha!!

What a year it’s been. The channel is still small with 197 subscribers (at the time of writing this) but thats 190 odd more than I ever expected. I upload video’s for the fun I get out of making them. I’m not looking for 1000′s of subscribers because that means I’m under more pressure to upload more content.

On my old blog and back in January I set myself a target which was to increase my subscriber base and upload views. On Jan 6th 2010 I had 28 subscribers and 1637 upload views.  I set myself a target of 10,000 upload views which I thought was going to be incredibly tough but looking now I have passed that with 10,667 views and we still have 3 months to go so it goes without saying I am very pleased with that.

So what lies ahead for the channel?

Well of course we have Battlefield 3 coming out so I will be uploading gameplay from that and I plan to keep going with my World of Warcraft for Beginners series but I do also want to incorporate different games to try to reach a broader audience. I  have uploaded a couple of Minecraft video’s so hopefully I can continue with that but looking back, what is pleasing is I have gained these subscribers and views through work and effort that I have made. You will only see my content uploaded onto my channel and I wont be uploading any trailers or the like. I feel that if someone wants to watch an official trailer they will visit the official site and my sub base come to my channel to see what I have made, not what other people have done.

On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my first year on YouTube, I am somewhat of a late starter to this, both in the context of uploading and age (yes I’m an old git) and hopefully the channel will continue to grow at a manageable pace. It’s surpassed my wildest expectations and for that I cannot thank my subscribers enough.

For those who missed it, here’s what started it all off (btw you don’t have to watch it hehe it’s really not that good)
